Overseas Vietnamese residing, working or studying abroad can apply for passport renewal in person or by mail to the Embassy of Vietnam in Washington DC.

  1. PASSPORT RENEWAL (for those who still keep their expired or to-be-expired passports) 

Required documents:

- Application for a passport renewal

- 02 new passport size photos (2x2 inches)

- Original expired (or to-be-expired) Vietnam passport

- A copy of green card/ passport/ valid visa.

- A MONEY ORDER or CASHIER’S CHECK for the fee made out to the “Embassy of Vietnam in Mexico”.

- A self-addressed prepaid return envelope with tracking service such as FedEx or certified mail.

 

  1. PASSPORT REPLACEMENT DUE TO DAMAGE, LOSS

Overseas Vietnamese residing abroad with damaged Vietnam passport or without a Vietnamese passport (due to loss) can apply for passport replacement in person or by mail.

Required documents:

- Application for a passport renewal

- Biography

- 03 new passport size photos (2x2 inches)

- A copy of green card/ foreign passport/ valid visa.

- Report of lost passport

- Police incident report of passport loss

- A copy of papers as proof of Vietnam nationality: Birth certificate, identity card, lasser-passer, nationality-relating decisions, child adoption decision…

- A MONEY ORDER or CASHIER’S CHECK for the fee made out to the “Embassy of Vietnam in Mexico”.

- A self-addressed prepaid return envelope with tracking service such as FedEx or certified mail.

 

  1. APPLICATION FOR FIRST TIME PASSPORT:

For those who have never had a Vietnam passport:

Required documents:

- Application for a new passport

- Biography

- 03 new passport size photos (2x2 inches)

- A copy of green card/ foreign passport/ valid visa

- A copy of papers on evidence of Vietnam nationality: Birth certificate, identity card, lasser-passer, nationality-relating decisions, child adoption decision…

- A MONEY ORDER or CASHIER’S CHECK for the fee made out to the “Embassy of Vietnam in Mexico”.

- A self-addressed prepaid return envelope with tracking service such as FedEx or certified mail.

 

  1. BIRTH REGISTRATION AND PASSPORT FOR MEXICO-BORN CHILDREN

Record in the birth registration book

Children born in Mexico to Vietnamese parents (who have valid Vietnam passport); to parents, one of whom is not Vietnamese and whose birth certificates have been issued by the Mexico´s relevant authority, can apply for Vietnamese birth certificate and passport.

Required documents:

- Application form for Vietnam birth certificate,

- Parents’ passports (notarized copies of page 1 to page 4 and/ or Mexican visa page)

- Marriage certificate (notarized copy),

- Children’s birth certificate issued by the Mexican Authority (notarized copy)

- Agreement on child’s nationality (signed at and notarized by Public Notary) if one of the parents is a foreigner (does not bear a Vietnam passport).

- Application form for a new passport

- A copy of the child’s green card/passport/ valid visa.

- 02 new passport sized photos.

- A MONEY ORDER or CASHIER’S CHECK for the fee made out to the “Embassy of Vietnam in Mexico”

- A self-addressed prepaid return envelope with tracking service such as FedEx or certified mail.

 

  1. Birth registration:

Children born in the US to Vietnamese parents; to parents one of whom is not Vietnamese and do not have a Mexico- birth certificate can register for birth certificate and apply for new passport.

Requested documents:

- Birth registration form

- Parents’ passports (notarized copies of page 1 to page 4 and/ or US visa page)

- Marriage certificate (notarized copy),

- A copy of the child’s US green card/ US passport/ valid visa.

- Agreement on child’s nationality (signed before and notarized by Public Notary) if one of the parents is a foreigner (not bearing a Vietnamese passport).

- Application form for a new passport

- 02 new passport sized photos.

- A MONEY ORDER or CASHIER’S CHECK for the fee made out to the “Embassy of Vietnam”

- A self-addressed prepaid return envelope with tracking service such as FedEx or certified mail.

 

  1. PASSPORT RENEWAL FOR ADOPTED CHILDREN

Adopted children can keep their citizenship by renewing their Vietnamese passports.

Requested documents:

- Application form

- Original Vietnamese passport (expired or to-be-expired)

- Copy of their green card/ passport/ Certificate of Mexican citizenship

- 02 new passport sized photos

- A MONEY ORDER or CASHIER’S CHECK for the fee made out to the “Embassy of Vietnam in Mexico”

- A self-addressed prepaid return envelope with tracking service such as FedEx or certified mail.

- If the child’s Mexican name to be printed on the new passport, it is required to provide a copy of the Petition of Name change.

NUMBER 1: FULL NAME (ORIGINAL VIETNAMESE NAME)

NUMBER 3: DATE OF BIRTH

NUMBER 6, 7: ADDRESS IN THE USA, PHONE AND EMAIL

NUMBER 8: ADDRESS IN VIETNAM BEFORE THE CHILD LEAVE FOR THE US

NUMBER 10: FATHER’S NAME, MOTHER’S NAME (ADOPTIVE PARENTS)

NUMBER 12: REQUEST TO RENEW PASSPORT

NUMBER 14: GREEN CARD/ US PASSPORT NUMBER

ADOPTIVE PARENTS CAN SIGN THE FORM ON BEHALF OF THEIR CHILD

IT IS NOT REQUESTED TO FILL IN THE REMAINING OF THE FORM.
